Profit Sharing
2009-01-30 08:06:00
When it comes to our finances, conventional wisdom says ‘To have more we must keep more’. So, if you hold on to what you have, and you’ll have more. Makes sense, right? However, hoarding our finances only makes us emptier inside as a result. In fact, the more generous we are the more enriched our lives will be. It’s a paradox. On paper, that doesn’t seem to add up. But you’ve heard the expression “It’s more blessed to give than to receive.” That’s because the more you hold your hand closed, the more it slips through your fingers. If keep your hand open, you’re probably going to find that there will be enough left in your hand to meet your needs. Try that with sand sometime and you’ll see how this works. Do you remember teaching your children to share with others? Did we as adults forgot that lesson ourselves? At some point in our lives, we’ve all been on the receiving end someone else’s generosity. Perhaps we should find out how blessed we’d be if we were the ones doing the giving. Comment here.

Crunching the Numbers
2009-01-29 09:27:00
Here today, gone tomorrow. That’s a fair description of our finances. You bring your check home and it’s gone within a day or two. You know money doesn’t grow on trees. But have you ever thought that even if it did the wind would quickly blow it away anyway. Do you get frustrated by how fast your money goes? Do you worry about money all the time? You’ve done the math. Having more month than money doesn’t add up and yet here you are. You’re still making it. You’re still getting by. So be smart. Have a plan. Work hard. Sleep well. And don’t fret about money. Comment here.

Financial Freedom?
2009-01-28 12:02:00
Climbing the financial ladder has driven many people to lose their perspective. Have you ever asked yourself the following questions? How much money do I really need? Do I need to take another run? Do I really need to get to my destination that quickly? How hard should I push myself to make more money? How much money is enough? Learning to be satisfied with your income is a process. The journey often begins with curbing spending, moves thru being satisfied with what you have, and then ultimately realizing that those who have more money aren’t more satisfied with their life anyway. Having more is overrated. Besides it’s not what you have that matters is life, it’s what has you. Be careful. More money or more possessions can end up becoming a master that enslaves you. Comment here.

True Worth
2009-01-27 07:56:00
Financial troubles have a way of reminding us of what’s most important in life. Have you noticed that? No matter how little money you might have right now, you have a lot to be grateful for: a family, decent health, a job, friends and a free country. Unfortunately, wealth in our society is often measured merely in terms of money alone. Yet true wealth is so much more. The key is your focus. Are you focusing on the lack of money you have or on the amount of good things in your life that are worth more than money can buy? Comment here.

Dollars and Sense
2009-01-26 08:40:00
A money pit is something that always demands more money to be fixed or repaired. It can be a home, a truck, a business, a hobby (or a college student). Throwing more money at it seems pointless, because it’s never enough. There always seems to be something else a money pit needs: a furnace, a well, a water pump, a transmission, etc. It’s a black hole. Money pits will never be filled with more money. Instead they need to be filled with something else - common sense and self-discipline. Perhaps you need to think more carefully before you make a purchase to begin with. Maybe it’s time to consider unloading your money pit and cut your losses while you still have some money left. Comment here.

Resentment Can Ruin Marriage
2009-01-23 08:05:00
Are you angry or bitter with your wife or husband? Is there resentment in your marriage? Let me assure you that there is no faster way to an unhappy marriage than to let resentment and bitterness move in and stay. Don’t get me wrong, there might be some very legitimate issues in your marriage that cause you to be angry and question your spouse. It could be about your career choice, money (or lack thereof), doubt, children, family members, infidelity or a lack of trust. These have to be addressed right away. Don’t let them fester. Remember that no one is perfect including you. Honor your commitment to your spouse and leave no room for resentment. Comment here.

Who’s First In Your Marriage?
2009-01-22 07:40:00
Who is the most important person in your home--You or your spouse? Whose needs and desires come first? Your love for your spouse should be so great that you always, and I mean always, think of their needs first. Oh, I know that’s not easy. We are not programmed that way. Society says you should put yourself first. You’ve heard the slogans:” You deserve a break today” or “Have it your way”. But this kind of attitude is not right. If your marriage is going to work, you need to love your spouse more than yourself. This means thinking of them daily, making sure that they know you’re thinking of them, and going out of your way to make sure you are meeting their needs. Do you know what your spouse’s needs are? This is a great place to start. Ask. This will let your spouse know how much you care. When both spouses seek to meet each other’s needs, everyone’s needs are met. Let the change in your marriage start with you today. Comment here.

It is For Better Or Worse, Right?
2009-01-21 10:00:00
Sometimes it seems the demands that drivers face each and every day are worlds apart from the demands that their spouses handle at home. If not managed well by both partners, these “separate” paths could easily tear the marriage apart. While you’re out on the road, life at home is full of appointments, deadlines, bills, family issues, little league games and sometimes problems. Find a way to communicate about these issues as they come. Remember, if something falls apart, it’s probably not the desire of your spouse for this to happen, so don’t blame them. Work through problems together and remember your promise regarding “for better or worse”. Don’t let it tear your marriage apart. Comment here.

Two Become One
2009-01-20 11:53:00
We have all heard that when you get married two now become one. What does this really mean? How can we become one person? You are quite often separated by hundreds of miles and aren’t home long enough to become one. This is extremely hard as a driver, but not impossible. Look for ways to connect every day. It is easier today than ever before with the technology that is available. A couple can make decisions together, share joys and pains together, support each other, and love one another even though physically separated. Don’t let distance come between you. Stay one. Comment here.

Can Marriage and Driving Work?
2009-01-19 09:39:00
Driver, are you thinking of getting married while living on the road? You’ll face some additional challenges within your marriage that others simply won’t. If you’re a driver who is already married, you know this better than most. Remember these words? “ I (insert name), take you (insert name), to be my wedded spouse; to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish 'till death do us part. And hereto I pledge you my faithfulness.” How serious is this promise? Do we repeat these words on our wedding day because that’s what the minister tells us to do? Are these vows possible to keep? Can we get help to keep these promises when times get tough? All these questions are valid. We would like to help find the answers to these questions for your life. Comment here.

You Don’t Have to Pay the Penalty
2009-01-16 08:27:00
When your truck is overweight, you pay a penalty, right? The same is true with personal problems. Did you know that hiding your problems will only make the issue worse? Drivers have gotten angry, lost control and quit their jobs or ruined friendships and marriages all because of something they were afraid to share. Are there some things you have done that are weighing heavy on your mind? That is way too much for one person to deal with alone and I don’t want to see you pay a penalty. Comment here.

2009-01-14 09:39:00
How many times have you thought “There is no one I can talk to?” Our lives are filled with pickup and delivery times, log book hours and so many other demands that we seldom have time to ourselves (or so it seems). Alone Much?
2009-01-13 10:26:00
It’s not good for people to be alone. Oh, I know that there are times when we would like to have some peace and quiet. But we need to spend time with other people to unload the highs and lows of our day. If we keep things to ourselves, we may eventually explode. Remember other people may have gone through the same things you are dealing with, and they can help. There are many ways to connect with others: phone, internet, or the old fashioned way of sitting down face to face sharing and listening. Start sharing with someone today. Comment here.

Feeling Disconnected?
2009-01-12 14:01:00
Even though you travel the highways everyday and interact with many different people, loneliness has a way of settling in and disconnecting us from the outside world. It’s hard to find someone to have a real conversation with when you’re driving eleven hours a day and aren’t able to see family regularly. Do you find yourselves saying things like “Who cares?” or “Whatever.” These might be some signs that you are lonely. Let me encourage you to seek out a person or two that you can call at any time. Just being able to share your thoughts and struggles will help you get through those lonely times. You could also use the quiet times to do something you like, maybe reading or listening to your favorite music, or just going for a walk. There’s always someone available to listen. Comment here.

Our Good Attitude Can Reduce Anger In Others
2009-01-09 09:33:00
It is really easy to retaliate when we think we have been wronged. What is the proper way to respond to these wrongs? Are we to lash out at them? Are we supposed to fight fire with fire? Do two wrongs make a right? We can overcome the evil events throughout our day by responding in a good way. When angry people see our good attitudes, the probability of them responding the next time with happiness instead of anger is probably pretty good. Don’t let anger drive you. Comment here.

Are You Angry Over The Economy?
2009-01-08 08:02:00
The uncertainty of our economy has certainly caught the attention of many in the trucking industry. Have you experienced some of this uncertainty? Maybe you have felt the pain of financial shortcomings during this difficult time. Has your 401k become a 201k (that’s half of what it used to be)? This is not the fault of your company or your dispatcher. They are in the same economy. Don’t let anger and worry set in regarding these issues. Keep in mind the wonderful things that you have that don’t revolve around the economy. Is your glass half empty or half full? Comment here.

2009-01-07 10:20:00

Let me encourage you to not go to sleep tonight until you have corrected the wrongs of the day. Whether they were done to you, or by you, get them taken care of today. Fight or Forgive?
2009-01-06 07:53:00
What gets you upset? Are there injustices in your life today that don’t seem fair or right? Are there situations you face while living on the road that should not be tolerated. Does the traffic or detention time get you down? There are two ways people can react that will affect the driver’s life. You can either fight or forgive. Both of these reactions will get someone’s attention. Fighting will usually get you the wrong type of attention and more often than not, more trouble. Forgiveness will get another type of attention that will bring peace. Which will you choose today? Comment here.
