Feeling Blue for the Holdiays?

NThe holidays can be a lonely time, particularly if you have lost a loved one. Recalling memories of when that loved one was there may lead to feeling lonely. Especially when you realize that Christmas will never be the same. Maybe you feel lonely at holiday time simply because you have no one to share your time with or your company has you far away from home and family. Whatever the reason, there is a solution to loneliness. Don’t Let Stress Depress You

Recent scientific studies reveal that stress generally does not cause mental or physical illness. However, the same studies show that it does worsen these conditions. There is also a growing body of evidence that indicates stress contributes to substance abuse and some eating disorders.

Even if it does not cause illness, stress can make us short tempered, disagreeable, and abusive. Unfortunately, it’s an equal opportunity “employer”. Most of the people faced with stress producing situations, find it hard to cope. How are you handling it? Does it depress you? Don’t let it get to this point. Call us today. Comment here.

Three Kinds of Love

Do you love your spouse? Can I ask you how you love them? There are three types of love. The first type is called agape which means to love someone unconditionally. No matter what you choose to love someone anyway. In other words, your love is not dependant on how they act or what they have done. The second type is called Philia for friendship. The third type is Eros, the root word for erotic. I shouldn’t have to explain that one to anyone! So let me ask you again, do you love your spouse and with what kind of love? Comment here.

Gett Off the Holiday Merry-Go-Round

Driver, do you remember how the holidays were when you were a kid? When I was a kid, I wanted an electric train set. However, my mother was afraid I would electrocute myself, so I never got one.

Christmas is a busy time. There are gifts to buy and wrap, decorations to put up, and parties to go to. It’s a fun merry-go-round. Or is it? Is there more to Christmas than gifts, trees, tinsel, fat men in red suits, and parties? Has the merry-go-round gotten old? If this is all Christmas has meant to you so far, you’ve been missing the best part. Would you like to know more? Comment here.

Show Interest in Your Family

Who is showing interest in your family? If it’s not you the local drug dealers, predators on the internet and many others will show interest in them. They will devote their time to your kids if you don’t. You should be the one that shows the most interest in your kids. Our family members must be on the forefront of our minds and hearts each and every day. Now I know that this is very difficult for truck drivers. However, you can show interest by simply calling every day, or by sending flowers once a week, or by sending post cards from where you drive. The time and money involved are well worth it, guys! Share with us how you showing interest in your family while you’re on the road. Comment here.

Don’t Waste Your Energy

Sometimes the challenges we face each and every day seem like climbing a mountain. Even with a strong and reliable life line, the responsibility to find handholds and footholds and climb to the top is ours. I’ve learned that most of what we worry about does not happen. Just like a steep, granite cliff, it can be a barrier to a better life. That’s because worry is wasted energy that prevent us from focusing our creativity and positive efforts on what’s right in front of us.

Lifelines can help us overcome worry. Knowing there is support in case we fall can help us move beyond what might happen to focus on what is happening. Who is your lifeline? Who do you call for help? Comment here.

Left or Right-Brained?

Recently, as I listened to a discussion between a man and his wife, I thought about the makeup of men and women. Men are naturally right-brained. Distinctions of being right-brained are remembering things we see and do, as well as putting bits of information together to understand the big picture. Women on the other hand are primarily left-brained. Some of those traits are understanding and using language (listening, reading, speaking and writing), a memory for spoken and written messages, and a detailed analysis of all the information.

Now that you know this, what should you do with it? How about using that knowledge to help you communicate effectively in your marriage? Sometimes, there are exceptions to these traits. So, get to know how your spouse thinks. Then, learn to communicate to her using the way she thinks. You won’t regret it. Comment here.

Tootsie Toy Tragedy

When I was a boy, I lived in a small town and walked to school about six blocks from home. One day on the way home, I walked by the local garage and saw a mechanic with a car up on a hoist. When I got home, I saw something that I thought would be just the thing to use as my toy car hoist. Sitting on my sister’s dressing table, I saw a tube of lipstick. I put my Tootsie Toy car right on top of the lipstick and then I turned the bottom; the lipstick came out and lifted the car up just like I figured. By the time I finished, my sister’s brand new lipstick, purchased with her own money, looked like a mushroom. Needless to say, my sister failed to appreciate the neat car hoist I had made out of her lipstick!

When we are kids, we do things for immediate gratification without thinking of consequences, either to ourselves, or to others. I thought of my own needs, and never considered my sister’s. Sometimes, even as adults we still focus on our own immediate gratification. However, there are always consequences. Want to talk about it? Comment here.

Roller Coaster or White Water Rafting?

I’ve heard that life is like a roller coaster. It sometimes provides us with thrills as we are thrust up and down and from side to side. But in the end, we know what will happen. The ride will end and we will exit the roller coaster and deal with the pain from that ride. It’s very predictable. Some would say that life is like white water rafting. While it’s similar to a roller coaster there is some uncertainty on how the ride will go. In both of these examples, our ride or destiny is up to us to decide. How will you decide your destiny? Do you know your destiny? Comment here.

Men, There’s a Way to Get Respect from Your Wife

Most men are motivated by respect. That’s why most soldiers will follow their general into battle even when a threat of death is possible. Men give their all and are willing to die for the cause. I commend drivers that have served in our armed forces. Let me give you another situation that I’d love to see the same respect. That is our marriages. Most men are willing to die for their country, but how about your wife? When was the last time you let your personal wants and needs “die” in order to love your wife? This is the type of devotion we should have for our mates. If we’re consistent, our wives won’t be able to do anything but respect us. Let us know if we can help. Comment here.

Be a Living Example Your Kids Can Follow

One of the most desired goals for our families should be that each and every member possesses good character traits. At the foundation of good character lies honesty. If everyone in our household not only displays honesty, but actually uses it as a personal standard, then many of the other positive character traits will follow. Of course, it starts with us, the parents. We can’t just talk about these standards, we must live them ourselves. So Dad or Mom, if you haven’t done this already, a great place to start is with honesty. Comment here.

Civilized Societies Think of Others

When a baby is born into this world, his only concern is himself. He wants his food NOW, and someone better give it to him or he will cry. As the baby gets older, the crying gets louder and degenerates into yelling and a tantrum on the floor, unless he is taught better behavior. All along, kids have to be taught to think of others. If we grow up into adulthood and have never been so taught, then we go about only looking out for “No. 1”. When adults think of others instead of No. 1, we all get along much better. What do you think? Comment here.

Love and Respect Work

I was once taught that there are two major things in a marriage that will either make or break it: love and respect. Have you ever heard of Aretha Franklin’s song R-E-S-P-E-C-T or the one done by the Beetles, All You need is Love? Ironically, while both of these are true, men are the ones that need respect, and women are the ones that need love. It’s how we’re wired. So the next time you encounter a challenge in your marriage relationship, give one of these a try. They work! Comment here.

Sometimes “Spankings” Cannot Be Avoided

Once, when I was ten or eleven years old I thought I could put an end to being spanked. My mom was probably five feet tall, but she had twelve kids and plenty of spanking experience. Nevertheless, I jerked the stick out of her hand and broke it over my knee. I thought she would be powerless to do anything about it. WRONGGG! And I thought she was angry before! She had a closet full of hangers. She just got another, and gave me the walloping I deserved.

How do you react to life’s spankings? Do you try to control the one who’s doing the “spanking”? Have you ever tried just being quiet and listening to what’s being said first? How about agreeing with the person on the parts they get right? Then, maybe responding with calm respect and apologizing where needed. It just might work out better than the childish behavior I exhibited above. Give it a shot. Comment here.

How Do You Handle Life’s Uncertainties?

The majority of us prefer predictability. We naturally feel more secure when we know what lies ahead. This is part of being human and it is why we watch the weather, and the evening news. There is comfort in knowing if it will rain or shine the following day. But the need for predictability can never be satisfied. Even though we take in as much information as we can, uncertainty is inevitable. Just as the notion that life is unfair, so true is the fact that life is full of uncertainties. If you’re uncertain about your future, give us a call. Comment here.

What Keeps Us from Being Our Best?

Ever wonder why you are not better than you are? Many times it is not from lack of trying. The truth is that we cannot be our best on our own power. Suppose you are trying to quit cussing. Family is the Best Primary Influence on Your Kids

If you have children, there are a lot of outside influences competing for their devotion and attention. Even if your kids spend time a great deal of time at other places like school, sports activities, church youth group or going to the mall with their friends, their family should be the center and primary influence in their lives. Think of it like the solar system. At the center is the sun (family) and the planets are all the other things in their lives that circle around them. Make sure your family is at the center of their lives. Let us know if we can help. Comment here.

People Pleasers

As a kid, there was a time when I got spanked every day. One day, I determined not to do anything to irritate my mom and get spanked. Things went o.k. in the morning, but then something happened and I blew it. I don’t remember what I did now, but I know that I had it coming when I did it. Well, you get the picture.

Do you try to please people so that you don’t “get in trouble?” Do you worry that you won’t be accepted if you were honest about whom you really are? If so, you may be a people pleaser. That usually never works out well in the end. Being overly concerned with what other people think of you is a manipulative and crippling attitude. Start taking steps today to be honest with others. It might not be as bad as you think. Comment here.

How Are Your Nerves?

There are times when our job, boss, spouse, kids and life get on our nerves. Please don’t respond in anger or frustration. Instead, take a few minutes for yourself. Find a quiet place to contemplate the situation. Think about where you are and where you want to be. Then make a step by step plan which will allow you to achieve your goals. Keep in mind that immediate results are not likely, but if you stick to the plan eventually things will improve. Need a plan? Let us help. Comment here.
