Right Thing, Wrong Way
2010-02-26 11:53:00
Driver, have you ever got caught doing the right thing the wrong way? Suppose you pulled into the city where you’re going to deliver your load and you call the plant for final directions. The plant offers to send a car out to lead you through town to their location. So the four-wheeler comes out and leads you down a road with a “no trucks allowed” sign. You decide to follow anyway. Suddenly, your trailer snags some power lines and now you are in big trouble. You were doing the right thing the wrong way.
Even leaders and kings thousands of years ago have done the right thing the wrong way. They usually paid a price for trying to get away with it. Want to learn more? Comment here.

Training Wheels Don’t Last Forever
2010-02-25 07:59:00
A friend of mine re-married a couple of years ago. Occasionally, he calls to vent about his step daughter. Even though she’s an adult living on her own, she considers even small problems to be a catastrophe that requires parental attention. Recently, she called in tears because she was out of bottled water. She doesn’t like the taste of tap water and had a cold. So, she couldn’t go to the store herself, and she wanted my friend to make a 25 mile round trip to bring her bottled water.
How does someone with this mindset handle a real crisis when they can’t clear even the smallest of hurdles? Obviously, this young woman was raised by folks who were her friends instead of her parents. It’s your job to make sure your children are equipped to handle the real trials that come with life. What are you doing to prepare your children for their future when the “training wheels” are removed? Comment here.

Running Much Lately?
2010-02-24 13:16:00
There are many reasons people drive trucks: the lifestyle, raised by a trucking family, out of necessity, the money, or independence. Some drive because they are running away from something they don’t want to face: responsibility for their marriage or family, authority figures in the law or workplace, relationships with others, or their past.
I knew a guy who was running and didn’t even know it. Someone pursued and caught him. From then on, his life straightened out and he even made a great contribution to society. Are you running? Want to talk about it? Comment here.

Prevention’s Worth It
2010-02-23 12:23:00
When recovering from addiction, taking action must be approached carefully and thoroughly. Take time to reflect on previous experiences you’ve had that “lead” you to addiction. This will help you realize what went right and what went wrong. Then talk through each and every possible situation that might tempt you to use your addiction again. Listen to the responses of those who are helping you as they will most likely see your stressor points. Then clarify and solidify how you are going to act next time you encounter that scenario. Develop steps that will help you avoid the stressors. While all of this takes time, the results will be worth it. Call us if you want some help. Comment here.

Right Neighborly
2010-02-22 09:02:00
I’ve met drivers who were self-centered and care only for themselves. Then on the other hand, I’ve met drivers who are generous and helpful, to the point of buying meals for people who seem to be down on their luck. They are understanding, pleasant to be around and a joy to talk to.
Which one are you? Do you tend to be self-centered or understanding? How do you treat your fellow drivers or your family? Let’s talk about it. Comment here.

Support Can Help
2010-02-18 14:00:00
Rarely can a person recover from an addiction alone. Here are helpful hints for you and everyone involved in your recovery process. Listen well. Most of us are thinking about what we want to say next instead of truly paying attention. It takes real work to listen. Evaluate your progress and let others do the same. Together, identify new goals, make a plan to reach those goals, talk about how to put the plan in place and which strengths you have that will help you completely recover. All of these ideas will greatly increase your success. Let us know if we can help. Comment here.

Grow Through Difficulty
2010-02-17 16:28:00
Every one of our difficulties, trials and sufferings can be handled with a teachable attitude. Why do I say this? Because I believe every problem we face is an opportunity to learn something we didn’t know before. Sure, it doesn’t make it any easier, but it gives our circumstances purpose.
The things we learn from trying times can become the strength that someone else will need in the future. Ultimately, our problems will help us and the others we meet if we are teachable. Be encouraged today. Comment here.

Want to Clean House?
2010-02-16 13:46:00
Have you ever felt that life is dragging you down? Do you want a new one? All of us have probably wished we could sweep out the old and get a fresh start. It is good to “clean house” once in awhile. Have you noticed that the benefits of turning over a new leaf only last a little while? Eventually, little by little we go back to the way we were before. Have you ever wondered why that happens?
If you still respond to things they way you did before you cleaned house, nothing has really changed. In order to have lasting improvement, you must change. Let’s talk about. Comment here.

Partly Following Orders
2010-02-15 09:27:00
Has your boss or dispatcher ever given you instructions that you didn’t like? Suppose you were asked to pick up a load in California to be delivered to New York. But you don’t like going to New York, so you dropped the load off at their plant in Toledo. Then when you called in, you told the dispatcher that the load was at another plant within the company which does daily deliveries to New York so you saved him a bunch of miles. How much longer would you be driving for your company? Not much longer, right?
Being diligent to follow orders really does make a difference. Let’s talk about it. Comment here.

Absolutely
2010-02-12 08:26:00
Driver, have you ever heard the saying, "It's all relative?" This is in reference to the concept that what is truth to me, may not be truth to you. In fact, I could believe in something diametrically opposite to what you believe, but that's ok. As long as we hold to our belief, right?
Actually, the whole concept that truth is relative is absurd. There is absolute truth and no amount of believing it differently will change it. Here's an example: One day, a driver was traveling from Chicago, Illinois to Grand Rapids, Michigan. The entire trip, he believed he was on tghe road to Grand Rapids. That was his truth. However, he wound up in Toledo, Ohio instead. This example illustrates that absolute truths do exsit, no matter what you believe about it. Want to hear more? Comment here.

Don’t Do It Alone
2010-02-11 09:30:00
Change is never easy, and for some of us it’s almost impossible. Remember the phrase, “Many hands make light work?” That applies to change too. You don’t need to carry the entire burden of change alone. There are many resources available to help for practically any situation you are facing: anger, depression, sexual abuse, domestic violence, alcohol or substance abuse, gambling, sexual addictions, legal issues and many, many more. Follow Me
2010-02-10 20:14:00
One of my favorite photographs was of a young boy walking behind his father in the snow. The child was using his father’s footprints as his guide by following in his footsteps. Whether we like to admit it or not, we have been trained by someone else’s ‘footsteps’. Maybe it was your mother, father or your grandparents or even someone else. Bottom line, someone was an example that you followed in your life. Did you know that you are also an example for others? What kind of footprints are you leaving behind? Comment here.

Sometimes You Can
2010-02-09 08:08:00
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” Even though this may be true, sometimes you can get a pretty good idea. Especially when it comes to recovering from addictive behaviors, your choices will reveal whether or not you have made a fresh start. Number one is your relationships; who are they with and where do they take place? Number two; are you holding yourself accountable to someone who will tell you the truth about your progress? Number three; who’s encouraging you in this journey? Finally number four; what are you using as a resource? We can help you with all of these issues. Comment here.

Share the Walk
2010-02-08 11:00:00
When I was young, my older brother used to say; “Mind your own business” whenever I asked him what he was doing. Not real original, but effective. He did not want to be bothered. As adults, we have both come to the realization that he was wrong. Now, we share with each other our burdens, problems and joys. We have both realized that we need to walk alongside each other. Who walks along with you? Who are you there for? Comment here.

Recognize the Source
2010-02-05 14:07:00
When you first enter recovery, recognizing the “source” of your problem is very important. If you conclude that someone else is the source of your problem and you find yourself complaining and blaming them, then your potential for enjoying a fresh start will be limited. If you conclude that you are the source, then you know that some things about you need to change. You need to be ready to embrace that change. Either way, take ownership of your own life and get help if you need it. Give us a call. Comment here.

He Had Me Fooled
2010-02-04 11:14:00
Once in awhile, there is news about a sports figure that disappoints and surprises us. The latest is a golfer that I thought was pristine. By that I mean, I thought he was setting an example for kids to follow. You probably did too. Now we find that isn’t the case. He is only human, of course, and we cannot expect perfection out of any human. Some people justify their shortcomings by comparing themselves to someone else. However, even though we put on a good appearance and others think well of us, we all know that we just don’t measure up. We can help. Want to talk about? Comment here.

Making a Change Requires a Plan
2010-02-03 15:21:00
Ever heard the term “trip planning”? Most companies suggest that you plan each and every one of your loads you pick up. Just like trip planning, in order to make changes in your life, you must “goal set”. When you set these goals, make sure they are realistic and specific. Make sure they are measurable, and are broken down into specific action steps. Also, make sure you know the resources you’ll need to accomplish each step. Finally, make the commitment and keep the perspective that it’s a journey and there will be stops along the way. Let us know if we can help.Comment here.

The Old Couple
2010-02-02 21:55:00
When I was a boy, I heard a story about an older married couple. One day, as they were driving down the road, the wife looked across the seat at her husband. With a look of sadness she asked, “Do you remember how we were when we were young?” The husband smiled and said he did. The wife closed her eyes and leaned her head against the passenger window. Smiling, she told him how much she’d liked it when he drove with one hand on the wheel and the other arm wrapped around her shoulders. They sat in silence, each smiling at the memory. Finally the wife asked, “Why did you stop?” The husband looked at her across the seat and said, “I’m still right here where I’ve always been. Why did you move?”
Do you have someone in your life that has moved away from you? Or maybe you’ve done the moving? Give us a call to talk about it. Comment here.

Purposeful Compassion
2010-02-01 08:18:00
There are several different ways of handling the suffering we see in life: One is to run away or flee the situation. Another is to deny, cover up or bury it. Still another is to have compassion or care about the people affected by suffering without considering the long-term implications of getting involved. Sometimes alleviating suffering should not be our only motivation.
The next time you’re faced with suffering, step back and look at the big picture before you react. Consider that suffering should not rule your life or alter your main purpose and goals. Then decide on your course of action. This will ensure that your response will fit your life purpose while still helping those in need. Comment here.
