We Are What We Think

Our physical health is influenced by the food we eat. Each and every bite we take is either used as fuel or stored as fat in our bodies. That’s why health professionals raise awareness of what foods will make the biggest difference in the quality of life. Our minds are the same way. Each and every thought we let in is either used for good or bad. We need to become aware of how we think and channel our thoughts towards affirming, positive and loving directions. We can increase the quality of our life by actively changing how we think. Tell us what you think. Comment here.

We're Only Human

A wise friend once shared this, “As humans, we are all self conscience about our brokenness and lack of wholeness. We are also aware of our inability to cope with life. We know how powerless we are to control our bad habits, all of our daily temptations, our addictions, and the things we say and do to hurt the ones we love. We put up a big façade and pretend that we are in control and there is nothing wrong with us. But underneath it all, we are hurting, full of shame, guilt, and running scared.” Can you relate to this statement? Give us a call if you answered yes. Comment here.

Don’t Eat Your Way Through Stress

I have noticed that drivers tend to reward themselves for good behavior and achievements with food - junk food that is. This can also be a way to cope with stress. There are better ways to deal with stress. You could spend time doing a hobby, walk the parking lot, take a few deep breaths or just read. Let us know if you need more resources. Comment here.

Missing Somthing?

In almost every efficient trucking company, there are several roles involved: an owner, an operations manager, a dispatcher, customer service representatives, customers, and of course drivers. The Difference Between Knowledge and Wisdom

Have you ever met someone who spouts off everything they know or think they know? They tend to monopolize the conversation and might even have their facts wrong. Knowledge is merely awareness of information, however wisdom knows when and with whom to share it. Next time you want to share all you know about any given subject, consider if it’s wise to do so first. Mark Twain once said, “It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”Comment here.

Have a Remedy Ready for Your Heart

Along with the wonderful spring weather comes baseball season. If you like to play baseball or softball, then you are also familiar with the sprains and strains that come with it. Manage Your Stress before it Manages You

Often, I run into drivers that struggle with recurring headaches. It seems fairly common in the industry. In fact, most drivers keep aspirin, ibuprofen or something else that works for them in their trucks. Taking pills is a reactive type of health care. Have you ever thought about being proactive instead? In other words, learn how manage the stress that causes your headache before you get one. Even something as simple as drinking plenty of water can reduce headaches. Look for alternative ways to help you avoid the pain of stress. Let us give you some ideas. Comment here.

What’s Your Plan?

According to the Wellness Councils of America, the number one self-treated problem in the U.S. was the common cold and flu. I imagine most Americans already have over the counter medicine available at home so we can take care of ourselves at a moment’s notice if we feel a cold coming on.

Probably all of us experience minor depression when things just don’t seem right. Have you ever thought about being ready to care for yourself if you feel depression coming on? Is there someone you can talk to, a book you can read or music you can listen to that will help you get out of that funk? Give us a call and let us recommend a treatment plan for you! Comment here.

Conflict is Normal

If you have friends or family then you will have conflict. It’s normal. The tricky part is how you deal with it. The next time you have an issue with someone, here are some tips that will bring a positive outcome: If it’s bothering you, don’t wait for the other person to bring it up; take the initiative to work through it. Find a good time and place to talk in person. Talk only about the issue; don’t get sidetracked with other past issues. Most importantly, make sure your motive is to clear the air and restore the relationship. Is there someone you need to talk to? Easier said than done? We can help. Comment here.

Are You Emotionally Broken?

On this blog, our goal is to help you with emotional wellness. What does that mean? Synonyms for wellness include words like whole, complete and healthy. If you look for the opposite meaning you’ll find words like partial, incomplete and sick. Another word with opposite meaning that really summed it up for me was broken. One first step towards becoming emotionally well is to find out what is broken. Is there anything like that in your life? Let’s talk about it. Comment here.

I was recently inspired by my daughter. Her coach criticized her intensely. It would have been easy to stay angry, yet she overcame a tough situation with a positive attitude and team spirit on game day. Her approach even helped me to have a better attitude.

Did Your Love Change?

I recently celebrated a wedding anniversary after many great years being married to the same woman. It was great to reflect back on one of the most beautiful days of my life. Much has changed since that day. Our kids aren’t kids any more, we’ve moved from the original home we bought together and I no longer work for the same place I did back then. One thing that hasn’t changed is the love I have for my wife. In fact, it’s only grown. How are your marriage memories? If you are struggling with it, contact us. We’d love to help. Comment here.

Count Your Joys

Fyodor Dostoevsky once said, “Man only likes to count his troubles, but he does not count his joys?” Dostoevsky’s statement reveals an understanding of the human mindset. Joy is really an attitude. It’s as hard to describe as the wind –even though we cannot see it we still know it’s there. Think about the following situations:

  • Joy happens when you finally get together with your loved one after being separated for a long time even if you’ve had disagreements in the past.
  •  Joy occurs when someone who has come close to death in the line of duty returns to their loved ones. No one is happy that they nearly died, but they are filled with joy over being reunited.
Spend time counting your joys. It will enable you to overcome any negative circumstance in life. Not experiencing any joy lately? Give us a call. Comment here.

Make Them All Good Years

Every anniversary, my father-in-law jokingly shares how long he’s been married in the following fashion, “We’ve been married for forty-four good years – forty-three for her and one for me!” Rest assured that’s just his sense of humor talking, which is something I really enjoy about him. Let Good Habits Replace Bad Ones

Bad habits, while easy to make, are extremely hard to break. Certainly, we all have at least one bad habit such as nail biting, smoking, swearing or interrupting others. Did you know that a good habit takes more time to form than a bad one? On average, it takes at least twenty-one days. If you’re trying to break a bad habit try replacing it with a good one. Chew gum next time you want to smoke or listen to some calming music instead of griping about your day. Give us a call. We’d be happy to help you come up with a game plan to break your bad habit. My Dad Made Me Stronger

When I was young, I often thought that my dad was too hard on me. When I compared my life to those of my friends, I resented him even more. Now I realize that without those hard lessons, I would not be equipped for the real trials of life. I raised my own children in a similar way because I shared the same goal with my Dad; to raise independent adults who can handle life’s problems. Today, I look back on those hard times and I am thankful. I’ve learned the truth of that saying, “What doesn’t kill you, will make you stronger.”

Chart a New Course

There are three elements involved in recovering from addictive behaviors: your body, thoughts, and feelings. The body is the channel in which recovery will take place. It must be healthy. Your thoughts need to be focused on truth. Take responsibility for your thoughts and don’t entertain lies or misunderstanding. Your body and your thoughts contribute to how you feel. Feelings or emotions are nothing more than indicators or barometers that reveal your health and thought life. They are also evidence of your personal beliefs. All three areas set the stage for your actions. If you learn how to put them in order, your recovery will be well in hand. Comment here.

What’s In Your Bucket?

Have you ever noticed when things go bad how easy it is to focus on only the negative aspect of your situation? Even though we really have much to be thankful for, we tend to hyper focus the bad things that happen instead. In some ways, we are a lot like buckets. If I dwell on the things that go bad, the disappointments of life or on nursing grudges against those who have wronged me, then I hold or add those things in my “bucket”. When I need to pour out my bucket to those around me, guess what will come out? Nothing good, that’s for sure. Besides the things we kept from our upbringing, we are the sum of what we add to our life.

How about focusing on the blessings you have or the good things that happen to you instead? Soon, you’ll have a bucket full of happiness that will refresh not only yourself but also those around you. Comment here.

Stuck In A Rut?

I recently attended a family wedding being held out of town. My wife and I arrived a few days early in order to help with the rehearsal dinner and the wedding day activities. I really enjoyed watching the enthusiasm the young couple had. They shared with us their newly purchased home and future plans. They were filled with excitement.

The Hunter

As a deer hunter, I like to set up my blind near a frequently used food source long before I go hunting there. I want the deer to feel secure so I can catch them off guard. Often when they come down the very same path I used they’ll sense something isn’t quite right. They sniff the air or put their head down as if to eat, only to jerk it back up suddenly in hopes of catching predator movement. Other times, they stomp their front hoof to see if they can get the predator to blow his cover. Once in a while, a wise deer will raise its tail because it senses danger and then return back up the trail to safety. More often than not, most deer give in to temptation and continue down the path to the clover field below to eat. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s already past the point of no return. He’s come too far down the path and now there’s no way out. This is just what I’ve been waiting for.

What’s your weakness? The next time you face temptation think about what’s waiting to ambush you at the end of the path. Stay alert! We can help. Comment here.
