All Summer Long
2010-05-28 07:25:00
No blog will be posted on Monday, May 31, 2010 in order to allow our employees to spend time with their families. We will resume blog posting on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Drivers Wellness hopes you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.
Many of us have been looking forward to the warm days of summer. Now that they are upon us, we trust you have prepared your truck ahead of time by making sure your AC is working properly, the fluid levels are where they need to be, and you simply are ready for the dog days of summer. If you wait until something goes wrong in the heat, then you might suffer by possibly being stuck along the interstate on a 90 degree day. A driver’s wellness works the same way. You need to be prepared for the heat when it comes. Don’t wait, it will only hurt you. Be proactive, not reactive to your emotional wellbeing. Let us know if we can help. Comment here.

Only One Way
2010-05-27 06:54:00
Driver, you know if you take the wrong road, you will not get where you intended to go. When I was working a job during my college days, I had a delivery to make from Emeryville, CA to Concord, CA. I took off on the wrong road and was headed toward the wrong town, but thought I was going the right way. Suddenly, it dawned on me that I had envisioned another town, and was heading for that destination. I was out of route, late, and had to back track. In life, there are many roads we could take, but only one way to the Truth. Which way have you taken? Want to talk about it? Comment here.

If No One Would Listen
2010-05-26 07:15:00
Do you know when someone is really listening to you? They usually make eye contact, won’t interrupt or change the subject, and you can sense they are empathizing with what you are saying. How well do we listen to our kids? We should offer them the same consideration we try to show to the adults in our lives. I can remember when my mom would repeat something I said, just to show me that she heard me. A child, no matter how young, will know when someone is paying attention and really listening to what they are saying. This kind of consideration shows them that they are valued and important, and will benefit your relationship with them as they grow older. It’s never too late, no matter what age your children are, to begin actively listening to them. Start today. Comment here.

Take It Easy
2010-05-25 06:51:00
After surgery, I was surprised to find that the recovery took a little longer than I expected. Some days were better than others as I tried to take it easy and not over do things. I was reminded more than once to rest, especially when I tried to push myself too hard. It’s hard to be idle when there is work to be done, but it’s wise to take time to recoup when we need to. Driver, are you pushing yourself too hard? Take some time to relax. Add some down time to your schedule. Comment here.

Choose Your Battles
2010-05-24 06:03:00
Each stage of parenting has its own challenges, and one is not really harder than the other, just different. However, I have found that parenting teens has very unique trials. I have stepped onto the battle field with my teens over issues such as plans, movies, friends, music, and cell phones, just to name a few. Some of the best advice an older friend has given me is to pick and choose my battles carefully. Are issues such as the style of their hair as important as where they are spending their time? Not in the long run. Our relationship with our teenagers is more important than winning every battle. Let go of the minor issues, but stand firm on those that will impact their well being and future. Are you stuck in a power struggle with your teen? Give us a call. We can help. Comment here.

Help Stop the Nightmare
2010-05-21 07:53:00
As we address your emotional wellness on this site, we want you to know that sometimes it’s also about the wellness of others. Read the following testimony: “I am not a prostitute or a lot lizard. I’m a fifteen year old kid. ‘Danny’ took me from my home to rescue me from my step-father. Only I went from one nightmare into another. I didn’t choose this kind of life for myself. ‘Danny’ forces me to do this, and I fear for my life if I don’t. When you see me being passed from truck to truck, please don’t pretend you don’t notice what is going on. Phone the Human Trafficking hotline: 1.888.3737.888 and give them my location, what I look like, a description of the truck I was in - anything that could help them rescue me.” Driver, be aware of those around you. Let us know what you think. Comment here.

Break the Cycle
2010-05-20 07:41:00
Have you ever said something to your spouse that later or maybe as soon as it came out of your mouth, you wish you could take back? Keep in mind this is not the end of the world and by taking some steps in the right direction, things can get better. The first step to take is to ask for forgiveness. When that happens, you can then begin to work toward rebuilding your relationship. Secondly, use your past failures to help you learn and prepare for the future. Take what you’ve learned and apply it the next time you find yourself in a similar situation, because unfortunately you may end up there again. If you want different results, you can’t keep doing the same old thing. Need help in this area? Comment here.

Time Is On Your Side
2010-05-19 09:01:00
Spending quality time with our kids in the midst of busy schedules today can be tricky, especially for a driver’s family as days can go by with little to no contact. With some strategic planning on your part, this can be a successful area for you and your family. Take advantage of those days off and plan to do something simple with your kids such as taking them to the store to pick out their favorite ice cream or playing ball in the back yard. I love the memories I have of pitching and catching with my dad throughout my growing up years. Even as a teenager, it helped us to connect. If you want to strengthen your relationship with your kids and build memories into their lives, give them the gift of your time. It will be one of the best investments you’ll ever make. Comment here.

Breaking Down the Walls
2010-05-18 08:01:00
It has been two years since I’ve talked to my sister since there is a wall between us which involves her son, my nephew. I miss her very much and am hoping for reconciliation one day when she’s ready. In the meantime, I am trying to remember the good things about our relationship instead of focusing on the negative. Is there someone in your life you are separated from and they’re not ready for reconciliation yet? Try to think positive thoughts about that person so you are prepared to mend the relationship when the time comes. Need to talk about this? Give us a call. Comment here.

The Greatest of These Is Love
2010-05-17 12:40:00
Have you ever had your spouse do something which continually goes against what you believe is best? Typically when spouses differ on any type of issue, it’s time to sit down and hash it out until an agreement can be reached. Sometimes this takes a while and can be done very loudly, but hopefully a compromise will be found. What do you do if this doesn’t happen? Keep this in mind: we don’t always get what we want. Sometimes we need to accept what our spouse wants regardless of our own desires or what we think is best. The love we have for our spouse and the way we treat them should always override any issue. Remember, love is the greatest thing of all. Comment here.

Speak No Evil
2010-05-14 07:36:00
How do you talk to your spouse? How would you like to be talked to? I have found, but not mastered, that speaking to your spouse in a way that builds them up always works the best. The opposite of this is to speak to them in ways that tear them down. This will always hurt your significant other and your relationship in deeper ways than you might think. When you are in a heated discussion, this concept can be very difficult to remember. The next time you find yourself toe to toe with the one you love, try taking a step back, a couple of deep breaths, and remember to speak in ways that will bless them, not crush them. Both you and your spouse will appreciate it in the long run. Comment here.

New Car, Dead Horse
2010-05-13 07:48:00
A young driver was very happy about purchasing his first car. He hadn’t even made his first payment yet when he rolled it over and totaled his prized possession. He is now making payments on what many of us would call a “dead horse”. How would you deal with this without getting discouraged or financially in the hole? We can offer help in these areas. Peace According to U2
2010-05-12 10:57:00
Many entertainers sing about peace. U2 is one that has a passion for world peace, and has written songs about it. Are you familiar with his lyrics? “Heaven on earth, we need it now. I’m sick of all of this hanging around. Sick of sorrow, I’m sick of the pain, I’m sick of hearing, again and again, that there’s gonna be Peace on Earth.” Another singer, Van Morrison, wrote these lyrics: “You see me on the street, well you guess I’m doing fine. Oh, but its fantasy, baby, almost all the time. I’ve got to get away by myself. Oh, the way it’s going, soon be needing help, ‘cause I’m just a man doing the best I can. Don’t you understand? I just want some Peace of Mind.” These lyrics speak to the way many of us feel at times. Do you long for peace on earth? Do you have peace of mind? Let us help. Comment here.

How long have you been married? Six months, two years, the so-called dreaded seven years or maybe it has been forty? Congratulations, however long it has been! It takes work to keep a marriage functioning well. Remember that two completely different people come together to make one. This is not easy, and at times it doesn’t seem to get any easier. Four-Wheel Drive...Not!
2010-05-10 07:17:00
Recently my nephew tried to use his four-cylinder car as a four-wheel drive vehicle on a rugged, mountain road. Needless to say, the road won and his transmission lost. It was an expensive lesson and he is still paying the price for that decision. Why do we sometimes use the wrong means to try to reach a goal? It usually costs us more in the long run. Think about your life, finances, marriage, and parenting. Evaluate if you are using the wrong methods to get where you’d like to be. Comment here.

Mother's Day
2010-05-07 07:09:00
This Sunday, May 9, is Mother’s Day. Driver, do you have good memories of your mother? Be thankful for those memories. Not every driver has the privilege of knowing his or her mother. My mother had twelve kids, but she had time for all of us. She was always home until we moved from the foothills of California’s High Sierra to Oakland, California, and began working in one of the two grocery stores that my father had bought. She was a loving mom, but I saw her tough side when she had to deal with disagreeable customers. Sunday has been set aside to honor our mothers. Is your mother still living? Give her a call or send her some flowers. How about the mother of your kids? Are you teaching them to honor their mother? Make Sunday a great day for the moms in your life. Comment here.

National Day of Prayer
2010-05-06 06:43:00
I have met many sincere men and women drivers who pray consistently. Prayer makes a difference. It can cause miracles to happen, change people’s hearts, and protect from evil. Prayer can even deliver a nation from the brink of disaster. In the recent past, former presidents have recognized the importance of prayer to national life, and have declared a National Day of Prayer. Today is the National Day of Prayer in the United States. This is a great opportunity to ask God to preserve our Nation, so let’s remember to pray. Comment here.

What’s Your Role?
2010-05-05 06:51:00
I’d like to share with you what I believe the “roles” in a marriage should be. Let me state, first of all, that just because there are different roles, it doesn’t make one better or greater than the other. Just like the Armed Forces, there are different ranks, and as each one works together to complete its own responsibilities, the larger goal gets accomplished. Husbands, you are the leader in the home, so lead properly, not selfishly. Wives, you are the helper, so help accordingly, as to accompany your husband. Together you can get it done. Comment here.

Finding Peace
2010-05-04 08:04:00
My father and I are very close and have been for many years now, although it wasn’t always this way for us. When I was a teen I caused him many sleepless nights and a lot of aggravation. He has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and the outlook is not so bright. Our family got together and made some very tough decisions, always trying to keep the welfare of Dad first. Our main concern being that he will be as peaceful as possible during the remaining days he has left. So far this plan has worked well. My father is at total peace through all the surgeries and doctor appointments. No one looks forward to this day, but it comes for every one of us. Where do you find your peace during difficult times such as these? Please let us know if we can help. Comment here.

Conflict Is Inevitable, Combat is Optional
2010-05-03 06:50:00
Conflict in marriage is as sure as sparks flying up from a fire. When a marriage is new, things like money, having kids, a mortgage, and other issues crowd in and make it hard for newlyweds to see eye to eye. As a marriage matures, different difficulties come up as kids get older, your income grows, and new issues, such as parenting, materialism, and retirement investing come into play. The question is not whether or not you will have conflict in your marriage, but rather what you will do about it. Let us know how you handle your conflicts. Comment here.
