You Don’t Have to Pay the Penalty

When your truck is overweight, you pay a penalty, right? The same is true with personal problems. Did you know that hiding your problems will only make the issue worse? Drivers have gotten angry, lost control and quit their jobs or ruined friendships and marriages all because of something they were afraid to share. Are there some things you have done that are weighing heavy on your mind? That is way too much for one person to deal with alone and I don’t want to see you pay a penalty. Comment here.

How many times have you thought “There is no one I can talk to?” Our lives are filled with pickup and delivery times, log book hours and so many other demands that we seldom have time to ourselves (or so it seems). Taking the time to share your thoughts will make a world of difference. I promise you there is always someone willing to. Call us today. Comment here.

Alone Much?

It’s not good for people to be alone. Oh, I know that there are times when we would like to have some peace and quiet. But we need to spend time with other people to unload the highs and lows of our day. If we keep things to ourselves, we may eventually explode. Remember other people may have gone through the same things you are dealing with, and they can help. There are many ways to connect with others; phone, internet, or the old fashioned way of sitting down face to face sharing and listening. Start sharing with someone today. Comment here.

Feeling Disconnected?

Even though you travel the highways everyday and interact with many different people, loneliness has a way of settling in and disconnecting us from the outside world. It’s hard to find someone to have a real conversation with when you’re driving eleven hours a day and aren’t able to see family regularly. Do you find yourselves saying things like “Who cares?” or “Whatever.” These might be some signs that you are lonely. Let me encourage you to see out a person or two that you can call at any time. Just being able to share your thoughts and struggles will help you get through those lonely times. You could also use the quiet times to do something you like, maybe reading or listening to your favorite music, or just going for a walk. There’s always someone available to listen.Comment here.

Our Good Attitude Can Reduce Anger in Others

It is really easy to retaliate when we think we have been wronged. What is the proper way to respond to these wrongs? Are we to lash out at them? Are we supposed to fight fire with fire? Do two wrongs make a right? We can overcome the evil events throughout our day by responding in a good way. When angry people see our good attitudes, the probability of them responding the next time with happiness instead of anger is probably pretty good. Don’t let anger drive you. Comment here.

Are You Angry Over the Economy?

The uncertainty of our economy has certainly caught the attention of many in the trucking industry. Have experienced some of this uncertainty? Maybe you have felt the pain of financial shortcomings during this difficult time. Has your 401K become a 201K (that’s half of what it used to be)? This is not the fault of your company or dispatcher. They are in the same economy. Don’t let anger and worry set in regarding these issues. Keep in mind the wonderful things that you have that don’t revolve around the economy. Is your glass half empty or half full?Comment here.

How Soon Should You Take Care of Your Anger?

How long are you going to stay mad? Is there a proper amount of time to let things settle before you address the trouble? Let me encourage you to not go to sleep tonight until you have corrected the wrongs of the day. Whether they were done to you, or by you, get them taken care of today. Sleep is hard enough to come by as a driver, don’t add to your sleepless nights. You’ll feel better by day and sleep better by night. Comment here.

Fight or Forgive

What gets you upset? Are there injustices in your life today that don’t seem fair or right? Are there situations you face while living on the road that should not be tolerated. Does the traffic or detention time get you down? There are two ways people can react that will affect the driver’s life. You can either fight or forgive. Both of these reactions will get someone’s attention. Fighting will usually get you the wrong type of attention and more often than not, more trouble. Forgiveness will get another type of attention that will bring peace. Which will you choose today? Comment here.

For many, there are often feelings of excitement and great anticipation during the holidays. This excitement is driven by time off from work, time spent with families, good food, fellowship, friends, rest, celebration and presents. Signs That Make You Go ‘Hmm?’

You’ve seen them as you’re driving down the road—good ones, bad ones, and some that they should have thought twice about before posting. I am talking about the signs that many churches place in their front lawns. To quote a few: “Aliens welcome – plenty of space inside”; “If you stole our AC, you're sure gonna need it one day”; “There are some questions that can't be answered by Google”; “Honk if you love Jesus, Text while driving if you want to meet Him.” Some of us have very strong opinions about this subject. What is yours? We’d love to hear it. Give us a call or leave a comment. Comment here.

Even When No One is Watching

Many years ago, as one of his first jobs, my dad worked with a local trucking company servicing and refueling trucks. Often, after he finished working on more than his share of trucks and had them parked and ready for the next delivery, he would bring his own car into the garage to service and polish it. When the owner visited one evening and surveyed the scene, he verified that all the trucks had been properly serviced; he then asked my dad if he would wash and polish his prized ’58 Thunderbird. Dad earned the owner’s trust and respect by exhibiting good work ethics. You never know who is observing you on the job; for your own wellbeing and that of your family, do your job to the best of your ability. Comment here.

Stretching the Truth

No one needs to be taught how to lie. It comes naturally to us. Listen to any small child, and it will soon become evident that the child will lie to circumvent authority to prevent being punished for some infraction of rules. Today’s society seems to support lying to accomplish whatever end is desired. We use euphemisms to avoid calling a lie what it really is. We call it a “white lie”, or “stretching the truth”. Driver, don’t believe it. It’s wrong to lie. Sometimes it seems hard to tell the truth, but better to live in truthful reality than always covering our tracks to uphold a falsehood or live in hiding. We face that challenge daily, but how would you like to live in peace with the freedom of a clear conscience? Comment here.

Hiding Your Wallet

Crimson Tide from Alabama, and their coach, Nick Sabin, were the national champions of college football last year. Sabin voiced his opinion recently regarding the activity of certain football agents toward college players. Many of them have broken the rules when recruiting new players and many of schools are on the hot seat lately because of this type of activity. Sabin went on to say that ultimately the players should be held accountable, but these less than honest agents should be penalized. Sabin feels that there is much more to life than materialistic goods. I agree with him and applaud his stance. Maybe more of us should think outside of our own wallet with a willingness to help others. Do you help others, or do you always hide your wallet? Let us know if we can help. Comment here.

Stressing Out

I recently heard someone say that the best way to handle stress in your life is to know what you can or can’t expect from others. If you first understand that you can’t change or control the way others will act, especially those you come in contact with each and every day, and you can only control yourself, you will be well on your way to handling this stress. Secondly, if you know what types of things stress you out, you can better recognize them as they come, and be more prepared or know how to avoid them completely. Do you know what stresses you out? If you need help understanding stress, let us know. Comment here.

It’s Not All About You

I recently read a story about two different NASCAR drivers that had been placed on probation and fined twenty-five thousand dollars for aggressive driving. I say that if you are not an aggressive driver, you should not drive a race car to begin with, but let’s focus on the penalties. Do you think the dollar amount that was designated actually hurt them? Are they more interested in finishing first or in the finances? Both of the possibilities seem somewhat misguided to me.  Shouldn’t we focus on helping others more than benefiting ourselves? This would include our own families, or perhaps the neighbor next door who has been laid off and can’t afford to buy groceries, or any number of other possibilities. I believe that if our attention would be on others more than ourselves, we would see significant results. Comment here.
